Fascination with is attracting a monster audience to the third open-air play of the summer season at Lytham Hall.

400 of the 500 tickets for Illyria’s production of Frankenstein on Saturday 17 August at 7.30 pm have already been snapped up, as the company come to Lytham Hall, one of 28 venues in their 34 day nationwide tour.

Theatre organiser at the Hall Julian Wilde feels that the enduring appeal of Mary Shelley’s story, written in 1818 and made famous in the film version starring Boris Karloff, and Illyria’s reputation for Gothic productions is an ideal combination.

“Illyria’s artistic director Oliver Gray is superb with this type of play and our audience at Lytham Hall just love them. In recent summers we have enjoyed The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Lost World and this production has all the elements, including a finish in darkness, to spook our audience.”

Illyria opened their tour in Somerset at the end of July and will be visiting a variety of venues - Cardigan Castle in west Wales, Newstead Abbey and Hatfield Forest - before travelling to Lytham from Pitmedden Garden near Aberdeen where they will perform on the previous evening.

After a capacity audience for Illyria’s The Tempest in July Julian Wilde is urging theatre enthusiasts to book in advance and is delighted to have two of Illyria’s top performers in the Frankenstein cast

“Edward Simpson and Jenny Cullen have become real favourites with Fylde coast theatregoers and I think we are in for a full house and real treat with this production of Frankenstein. Illyria are the leaders in the country at open air theatre and this show, with specially written music and songs, as well as pathos and horror, looks likely to be a true spectacular both for the eyes and the ears.”
