50,000 volunteer hours given

Lytham Hall has come to the end of a busy summer season where we hosted many outdoor events we hope you were able to enjoy. From Mega Mini Meet to Lytham Club Day, from outdoor theatre to cinema, plant fair, classic car show and Horseman’s Sunday. All of these events were made possible by the unstinting support of our 130 volunteers, who work tirelessly at the gatehouse, in the tea room, in the Hall and in the grounds. Heritage Open Day on Sunday 11 September was a case in point. We opened the buildings in the parkland free of charge. In the gardener’s cottage visitors could see photos of the changes brought about in the past three years: paths created, trees cleared, steps up the Mount laid

Wood, glorious wood

It’s that time of year again when the nights are getting colder and you are thinking of stocking up the wood store for winter. Fortunately, at Lytham Hall our volunteers have been stockpiling, chopping and seasoning the wood for you all through the year and from 20 September we are ready to open up our wood store, as long as seasoned stocks last. The bags are 35 litre bags, and the wood has been cut and seasoned at Lytham Hall, at £4 per bag. Please phone the estate office on 01253 736652 to book your pick-up slot on Tuesdays or Thursdays and indicate how many bags you would like to purchase. On the spot sales only available Tuesday and Thursday when grounds volunteers are working. Feel cosy

Horseman's Sunday

For the past twenty years Horseman’s Sunday has been held at a variety of locations. This event has grown in strength and has attracted many owners with their horses (driven, shown, ridden and in-hand) as well as a “congregation” of horse lovers, friends and supporters. All have participated in the Service of readings, hymns, prayers, poetry and the “sermon on the mount”(on horseback), together with the Blessing of each horse. Entry is free for all and each horse receives a commemorative rosette. Latterly, the occasion has included a competition for the best turned out horse, the winner receiving the silver Stirrup Cup. The twenty-first celebration this year will be held at Lytham Hall on Su

Heritage Open Day

Heritage Open Days were started to offer people a chance to look inside buildings not usually open to the public. In line with this, on Sunday 11 September, Lytham Hall will open many of the Grade II listed buildings in the parkland, for you to have a free look around. Please note the Hall itself will NOT be open for visitors, as all the volunteers are helping to open up the outbuildings, for a unique look behind the scenes. Always wanted to look inside the 18th century dovecote? Now is your chance. Fancy a look at the newly laid cobbles in the piggeries or a nosey around one of the gatehouses? Perhaps you will go on a brief tour of the stables (numbers limited)? The tea room will be open fr

Lytham leads the country

Lytham Hall provided the largest audience of Illyria’s 95 day nationwide tour, as a full house enjoyed their all–action performance of Danny, the Champion of the World. A warm and sunny Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon drew a capacity audience of 600 for the open air season’s finale. Illyria’s company manager Nick Taylor who played the bullying landowner Victor Hazell was full of praise for the enthusiasm of the children who made up nearly half the audience. “It’s always a treat for the cast to play at Lytham Hall," he said, "and this year the children really made it an excellent occasion. There was a storm of booing every time I appeared and they created an atmosphere of both attentiveness and
