Fylde Gallery OPEN

The Gallery is open Thursday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm (last admittance at 3:30pm) - ADMISSION IS FREE.

The Gallery's latest exhibition 'Inspired by Nature and the Elements', by Margaret King (b.1932) opened on Thursday 28th August.

The exhibition is a curated display of retrospective works and new paintings that haven’t been exhibited before. Margaret King was born in St Annes-on-Sea in 1932 when, in her own words, there were sandhills in the middle of the town as well as along the shore.

King’s expressive use of colour and light, and her tendency to dissolve form, results in oil paintings that prioritise sensation and emotion over detailed representation. Her atmospheric watercolours often depict recognisable subjects like landscapes, floral details, and seascapes.

At the heart of King’s work is an appreciation of nature, the elements, and the connection between these things and our lives and locale. The exhibition includes works that reference Lytham St Annes, Blackpool and Fleetwood.

In response to the theme of the exhibition, nature and the elements, the shutters in the 17th century gallery will be open for the duration of the show. Curator’s Notes are available in the gallery with more information about the exhibition.
