The Fylde Gallery at Lytham Hall has been funded by and is managed by Fylde Council. The Fylde Gallery at Lytham Hall contains a year round changing programme of curated exhibitions of the Lytham St Annes Art Collection and there will also be visiting collections from time to time.

The Gallery is free to visit, with donations very welcome to reinvest into the art collection.

The Gallery's latest exhibition 'Inspired by Nature and the Elements', by Margaret King (b.1932) opened on Thursday 28th August.

The exhibition is a curated display of retrospective works and new paintings that haven’t been exhibited before. Margaret King was born in St Annes-on-Sea in 1932 when, in her own words, there were sandhills in the middle of the town as well as along the shore.

King’s expressive use of colour and light, and her tendency to dissolve form, results in oil paintings that prioritise sensation and emotion over detailed representation. Her atmospheric watercolours often depict recognisable subjects like landscapes, floral details, and seascapes.

At the heart of King’s work is an appreciation of nature, the elements, and the connection between these things and our lives and locale. The exhibition includes works that reference Lytham St Annes, Blackpool and Fleetwood.

In response to the theme of the exhibition, nature and the elements, the shutters in the 17th century gallery will be open for the duration of the show. Curator’s Notes are available in the gallery with more information about the exhibition.
