Open Air Theatre Plans for 2019

Five plays are planned for the tenth season of open air plays at Lytham Hall in the summer of 2019.

Organisation of the 2019 season is already well under way with the opening production likely to be an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s classic novel Cranford in mid-June.

It is expected that a Shakespeare play, a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and a family show on the Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon in August will again be part of the programme.

The very successful 2018 season, expanded to five plays for the first time, enjoyed record attendances and record ticket receipts.

The productions drew audiences totalling 2100, including full houses for The Merchant of Venice and The Pirates of Penzance.

Support from many Lancashire Gilbert and Sullivan societies and musical groups enabled Lytham Hall to have the best attendance in the country, 540, for Illyria’s outstanding performance of the Pirates of Penzance.

Tickets for the 2019 season will go on sale in April, with online bookings available via the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham or the websites of the theatre companies themselves, as well as six local outlets.

The final profits from the 2018 season will be handed over to Lytham Hall during the autumn for a variety of visible restoration projects

Julian Wilde, organiser of the open air season said,

“I am expecting that the donation to Lytham Hall will be up on last year’s £5500.

It’s a great tribute to the support of our 24 Patrons from the business community and the hard work of so many unpaid volunteers that season has been so successful.

I am optimistic that we will again have a varied and well-balanced programme of plays next summer and look forward to a repeat of the superb support we have enjoyed this year.”
