WORKSHOP 2020's.jpg

Association of painting craft teachers centenary exhibition

14th November - 16th January

From 1880 to 1920 the Arts and Crafts movement was flourishing in the North of England, especially in the Lancashire area around Manchester. In 1878 the City and Guilds Institute of London was created to improve the training of craftspeople.

In 1921 three wise men got together and formed the Association of Painting Craft Teachers. whose main purpose was to improve the quality and standard of teaching in Painting and Decorating throughout the UK.   From these early beginnings the APCT grew and is one of the oldest teaching associations in the World.

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of this momentous occasion, the APCT have teamed up with Heritage Trust for the Northwest to put on an Exhibition of artefacts used in the teaching of painting and decorating from the 1920’s to the present day.   This will feature examples of work by some of the UK’s Master Craftsmen, including the late Zeph Carr of Sheffield (formerly of Preston), the late Bill Holgate of Clitheroe, Terry Taylor of Blackburn, and Walter Riley of Great Harwood.

Celebrating the life of Violet Clifton

23rd November 2021 - 2pm

To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Violet Clifton's passing this November, we are doing a fabulous talk with Denise Hadley and an animated character of Violet performed by Anne Bouget.

Violet was the great great great great great great granddaughter of Charles II, a member of the infamous Beauclerk dynasty and the Dukes of St Albans.

Listen to the fascinating story of the life of the last Lady of the Manor of Lytham. Listen to the excerpts and poetry from her many books with a small stage set where we bring the character of this truly remarkable lady to life.

Tea & biscuits, coffee & violet creams accompany this small event in our Upper West Wing.

You can ring or email to put your name down in the Estate Office and pay on the day.

Admission: £4.00 per person with all proceeds going to the commission of a bust of Violet in celebration of her life.
