It's boom time for Shakespeare in Lytham, as the second play in the Lytham Hall open air theatre season approaches. Illyria will bring Oliver Gray's production of Shakespeare's The Tempest to Lytham Hall on Sunday 7 July and all eight online and local ticket outlets are doing a roaring trade. Two weeks before the production half of the 500 tickets had already been sold. Cranford Lytham Hall

The young cast of Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s Cranford brought spirit and humour to Lytham Hall on the opening night of their national outdoor tour. Laura Turner’s stage adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s 1851 novel rightly focusses on the equality if not the superiority of women and the strongest and funniest scenes are those where the ladies of Cranford, led by the excitable Miss Pole (Jenny Deering) and the upstanding Miss Jenkyns (Rachael Cummins), simply tittle tattle. NEW LYTHAM PATRONS BACK OPEN AIR THEATRE

Four new Patrons from the local business community in Lytham are backing this summer’s open-air theatre season at Lytham Hall. Your Gym, The Clifton Arms, Lytham Gin and the Lytham branch of Handelsbanken are all giving their support to the programme of plays at the Hall which opens with Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s stage adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel Cranford on Sunday 16 June. From a base of just five Patrons and three plays in 2010 the total of Patrons has risen to 25, with five plays being staged this summer.
