Lytham Hall has won warm praise as a venue for open air theatre from one of the country’s leading touring companies. For Illyria’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe over £900 worth of tickets were sold at the gate as playgoers flocked to the Hall on a beautiful evening. The Lord Chancellor, the Queen of the Fairies and Private Willis of the Grenadier Guards will all be on parade at Lytham Hall next Tuesday evening July 14 as Illyria stage the third play of the outdoor season, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe. Gilbert and Sullivan's most magical comic opera is set half in Fairyland, half in Westminster. Written in 1878 its surprisingly topical and waspish satire pokes fun at Love, Class and The House of Lords, whilst many believe its sumptuous harmonies to be the most beautiful Sullivan wrote. Fortune and the sun smiled on the second outdoor play of the season at Lytham Hall. Heavy afternoon rain gave way just in time to a sunny evening as Illyria produced a most entertaining production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew in front of an audience of over 300. Lytham Hall is a place for fit dogs

It is time for all the dog walkers at Lytham Hall to put their pooches to the test. How obedient is your dog? Sunday 12th July sees the FITdogs annual Dog Show, in aid of Lytham Hall. Entries are being taken from 11am and are £1.50 per class. The judge Lou Garton, from Wiltshire will start the first of 17 classes at 1pm, these include Adult and Child Handling Classes. Other classes on offer are for Pedigree and Crossbreeds. Novelty classes open to all dogs and owners include the waggiest tail, and the funniest duo. PICNICS, PIMMS AND PETRUCHIO

A Sunday afternoon picnic in the park is the order of the day for open air theatre enthusiasts as Illyria bring the second play of the outdoor season to the Lytham Hall next Sunday July 5 at 6.00 pm. Gates opening for picnics at 4.00 and an early evening start at 6.00 mean that ticket sales have been booming for The Taming of the Shrew, one of Shakespeare’s most waspish and controversial comedies.
