BRITAIN’S LEADING LADY LOVES LYTHAM PLAYS

The undisputed Queen of the British stage is backing the open air play season at Lytham Hall. Dame Judi Dench has taken the time to send her good wishes to the casts and organisers of the four-play season which opens on Sunday June 14 with Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s production of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. Judi Dench is currently filming as Cecily, Duchess of York opposite Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III in the BBC’s Hollow Crown series, but has been pleased to send a message of support through her personal assistant Sue Jennings, in response to a request from Lytham Hall theatre organiser Julian Wilde. “It is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to everyone involved wit

Aaron takes centre stage at Lytham Hall

It will be a welcome return to the Fylde coast next month for a young actor who learned his craft at Blackpool and the Fylde College. Aaron Charles will play the lead role of Mr. Rochester in Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s open air production of Jane Eyre at Lytham Hall on Sunday 14 June. Aaron, 23, who lives in Southampton graduated in 2013 after spending three years at the School of Creative Arts at Blackpool and the Fylde College. He has fond memories of a busy three years in the resort where he appeared in shows at the College produced by Sarah Stone, Michael Holdsworth and Anthony Dalnas. “My time in Blackpool was a formative experience in my life and a thorough training for being a pro

Remembering Augustus Wykeham Clifton

This weekend sees the 100th anniversary of Augustus Wykeham Clifton's death, on 9 May 1915. Born in 1829, he was the younger brother of Colonel John Talbot Clifton and saw action in the Crimean War. He married Lady Bertha Hastings, and in 1871, after he left the army, he and his wife came to live at nearby Warton Hall. Whilst Col. John Talbot was away, Wykeham was seen as the unofficial 'Lord of the Manor' and as such played a part in Lytham, crowning Rose Queens and performing other ceremonial duties. Last year we wrote this about him on our blog http://www.lythamhall.org.uk/#!Augustus-Wykeham-Clifton/c1o0l/5512bd1b0cf21d84af534fe5 #augustuswykehamclifton

Fairytale trail

The beautiful weather in Lytham on Bank Holiday Monday brought out the crowds, and the Fairytale Trail at Lytham Hall organised by volunteers in aid of Brian House Children’s Hospice was an incredible hit. The organisers and ourselves were overwhelmed at the number of families who turned out to support such a fantastic cause, and within an hour of opening Lytham Hall was full to bursting. At around 12.30pm we took the decision in conjunction with the Police to close the event for public safety as our capacity had been reached. We are really sorry to all those princesses and their families who were unable to get into the event, but we are also delighted that so much was raised for Brian House

Sunny prospects for outdoor shows

It looks like sunshine all the way for the programme of four outdoor plays to be staged at Lytham Hall this summer. With five weeks to go before the opening play, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, on Sunday 14 June, interest and ticket sales are booming. Pat Booth from Plackitt and Booth’s Booksellers in Lytham’s Clifton Street has received many favourable comments on the programme for the 2015 season and is dealing with ticket enquiries daily. “Brontë, Shakespeare and Gilbert and Sullivan is a diverse and appealing line-up and the choice of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as the family show is excellent. Many ofthe youngsters know the story and the music from the Disney Fantasia movie,” he said. Jul
